Homes in Holly Ridge

Holly Ridge has a history of sudden growth. The Army announced Camp Davis there in December 1940, and at the height of World War II the camp supported more than 100,000 people. After the war, Camp Davis was turned over to the Marine Corps and the town shrank, returning to being a small town for decades.

Growth picked up again starting in the late 2000s. The town's population rose from about 1,268 in 2010 to about 5,170 by 2023, and a large development planned along U.S. 17 near the former camp site could add up to 2,750 more homes. As a result, much of Holly Ridge's housing is recent construction in new subdivisions, alongside older homes from earlier decades.

Weather and storm history

Holly Ridge sits in southern Onslow County, a few miles inland from Topsail Island and close to the sound. Onslow County recorded some of the heaviest rain in North Carolina's history during Hurricane Florence in 2018, with roughly 25 inches in Jacksonville and more than 30 inches near Swansboro. Being inland protects Holly Ridge from direct storm surge, but not from hurricane winds, wind-driven rain or the kind of multi-day rain that saturates the ground and overwhelms drainage in new neighborhoods.

New home, first hurricane season

Because so many Holly Ridge homes are new, many owners are learning their home's systems for the first time. Before storm season:

Frequently asked questions

Do you help homes in Holly Ridge's newer subdivisions?

Yes. Crews serve homes throughout Holly Ridge, including new subdivisions, older homes in town, and nearby parts of southern Onslow and northern Pender counties.

My Holly Ridge home is less than a year old. Who do I call about a leak?

Stop the water first, take photos, and call for help so drying can start. Then report the problem to your builder in writing, since the warranty may cover the defect that caused the leak.

Is my Holly Ridge home in a flood zone?

Most of Holly Ridge is inland from the highest-risk coastal zones, but areas near creeks, wetlands and low ground can still be mapped flood zones, and heavy rain can flood homes outside them. Look up your address on FEMA's Flood Map Service Center or Onslow County's GIS maps.

How fast can someone get to my home in Holly Ridge?

Often the same day. Response times depend on your location, the time of day and conditions, and can be longer right after a major storm.
